Pontius Pilate asked the most important question in the whole of the Bible and probably in the whole of creation: What is truth? (John 18:38). Actually, he said it sarcastically; he really wasn’t expecting an answer. Like, it’s impossible to know what truth is.
It’s 2000 years later and ‘truth’ still seems to be a make-believe concept. How do you know what’s right and what’s a lie? Perhaps you are like Pilate and think there is no such thing as truth; but the Bible gives us a few pointers on the identity of truth:
Truth gives life
I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
(John 10:10)
Truth is foolish
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
(1 Corinthians 1:18)
Truth gives peace
Peace I leave with you…
(John 14:27)
Truth overcomes
In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.
(John 16:33)
Truth protects
Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
(Proverbs 30:5)
Anything short of these is falsehood. Lies keep us bound in chains. Truth sets us free and keeps us free. Truth is in fact a person: Jesus Christ. He is the embodiment of all that is trustworthy and true.
