Yeah, Christians love to sing.
When we sing in praise, it is not about the music or the words or the loudness, the clapping or the dancing, or standing at attention like a lot of British churches I’ve been to do (I say this will all love).
Our praises to God are not like feeding sweets to a small child in hope of getting them to behave. Praising is not flirting, making God’s head swell so that he would do whatever we ask of him.
That’s a big misunderstanding. He is not a god that needs to be petted and appeased and lured into showering us with whatever blessings we want. However, that is most often our approach towards him, and that gets us nowhere.
When we praise, we are actually speaking to ourselves, telling our souls to let go. Singing, you communicate with your entire being to release any hold, any claim, any control you have over your life and situation to God, the one who truly knows it all and loves you. We submit ourselves under divine authority when we sing.
Not only are we speaking to ourselves but we announce who is in charge to the world when we sing praises. You might have been trying to handle it all by yourself before, flying up-and-down, heading for a crash; but with genuine praises from the depths of your heart, you hand over and let the cloud and wind know that there is a new Captain in charge, and with him, there’s always safety. Even if it all does end up crashing, this Captain will carry you to safety on his wings. You are never lost or alone.
That’s simply why we sing.
Let all that I am praise the Lord.
O Lord my God, how great you are!
You are robed with honour and majesty.
You are dressed in a robe of light.
You stretch out the starry curtain of the heavens;
you lay out the rafters of your home in the rain clouds.
You make the clouds your chariot;
you ride upon the wings of the wind.
The winds are your messengers;
flames of fire are your servants.
Psalm 104:1-4 (NLT)
Hey! I need you
Sometimes it’s hard to keep going in this work and I need words of encouragement. This is me unashamedly asking for your help: I need letters of encouragement. Could you please send me one?
