Jesus when you bid me, “Come up hither”, let me respond.
In the face of trials and temptations, Lord;
In the face of the good times and nothingness of life;
Jesus when you bid me, “Come up hither”, let me respond.

The world too bids me, “Come up hither”.
And there are true heights in what the worlds offers.
But Jesus, the world’s truth is foolishness compared to what you offer.
Your wisdom transcends all;
It is above all and takes over all.

Jesus, when you bid me, “Come up hither”, let me respond.
Let me be the first to take that step,
And inspire courage in other people just like Deborah in her time.
Let it be that when I step up and go up hither,
Other people will see that it is indeed possible,
And they too will ascend and go up higher.

Lord, when you call, let me answer.
Help me to understand and recognise the ways in which you are already calling.
Help me to recognise the ways you already demand a response,
The clear and very obvious ways that I have overlooked,
Those ways I have got so used to that I don’t even recognise your call anymore.
Just like the scent of one’s own perfume.

Lord, help me to recognise your scent.
Help to recognise the obvious ways that you make clear to us every single day;
The obvious ways of reading your word;
The obvious ways of making time to pray and spend time with you;
The obvious ways of showing kindness to others, of blessing others.
And as we bless others, somehow in some mystical way we learn more about you.

Lord help me to recognise those old ways.
Even as I recognise the old ways, when you show me the new ways, let me see them clearly.
Because it is only as we take one step, that we can take the next one;
And the next one;
And go up hither.

Jesus, as you bid me, “Come up hither”, let me respond.
