Part of The Love Chapters series
I heard this prayer in a dream I had after a day of battling intensely with my body.
In the dream, I saw a congregation standing at the beginning of their church service. The person leading that part of the service took them through the prayer.
It reminds me that Jesus’ death on the cross wasn’t just a spiritual one, but it was a real physical death. He doesn’t just redeem the soul. He also redeems our bodies.
I call it a prayer, but the leader referred to it as, “The Catechism of Jesus Christ Crucified”.
Leader: Where are the scars of Jesus?
Response: There are whip marks on his back, his thighs, his legs and the front of this body.
Leader: What about the thorns on his head?
Response: There are scars where the thorns pierced through his skull. They trace how the crown of thorns was pushed through his head.
Leader: What about his hands and feet?
Response: There are nail scars where nails were hammered through his left hand, his right hand and his feet.
Leader: What about his side?
Response: A spear was pierced through his side.
Leader: Child of God, this is how you should live.
Response: This is how I will live.
From now on, don’t let anyone trouble me with these things. For I bear on my body the scars that show I belong to Jesus.
